Marie Burchard was born in Bonn in 1982, but grew up bilingually in Paris. She studied at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts from 2005 to 2008. During her studies, the actress appeared on stage in the plays "Personenkreis" at Bat Berlin and "Die Reiherkönigin" at the Maxim Gorki Theater.

 

In 2008, director Andrea Breth brought her to the Salzburg Festival for the play "Crime and Punishment". This was followed by the role of Eve in "Der zerbrochene Krug" at the Ruhrtriennale in Essen in 2009. From 2008 to 2010, Marie Burchard was a member of the ensemble at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, where she appeared in productions including "Medea" and "Gerettet".

 

In 2011, she accepted an engagement at Schauspiel Frankfurt for "A Midsummer Night's Dream". This was followed by her third collaboration with Andrea Breth, who brought her to the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus for the role of Ludmilla in "Marija".  Parallel to her theater engagements, she played her first leading role in "Die letzte Lüge". Further roles in cinema and television productions such as "Der Kriminalist", "Zwischen den Zeilen" and in the German-American film "Die Bücherdiebin" followed. She played another leading role in the Sat.1 comedy "Verliebt, Verlobt, Vertauscht" in 2014.

 

From 2015 to 2020, the actress was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Schaubühne Berlin. Her roles there included the plays "Peng" and "Stück Plastik" by Marius von Mayenburg as well as "Ungeduld des Herzens". 

 

In 2017, she was in front of the camera for the cinema productions "Klassentreffen" by Til Schweiger and "Wenn Fliegen träumen" by Katharina Wackernagel and Jonas Grosch as well as for "Roads" by Sebastian Schipper.

 

At the beginning of 2018, Marie Burchard was seen in the RTL series "Sankt Maik" and in a leading role in the feature film "Wuff" by Detlev Buck alongside Johanna Wokalek.

 

In 2019, she appeared in the play "status quo" directed by Marius von Mayenburg at the Schaubühne Berlin. In spring of the same year, "Roads" by Sebastian Schipper was released in cinemas. The film opened the International Feature Film series at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

 

In 2020, Marie Burchard directed Hüseyin Tabak in the feature film movie "Oskar's Dress" and "You won't get my hate" under the directed by Kilian Riedhof. She was also in "Liebe. Now!" and "Mrs. Jordann is about to turn up".

 

In 2021, she appeared in Til Schweiger's novel adaptation "Kurt" and Bully Herbig's "Tausend Zeilen" based on the book by Juan Morenos. In the turbulent comedy "Jagdsaison", Marie Burchard took on one of the of the three leading roles alongside Rosalie Thomass and Almila Bagriacik under the direction of Aron Lehmann.  "Oskar's Dress" was released on December 22, 2022 in the cinemas. 

 

 

In 2022, she took over in the ZDF Christmas movie "Two Santas are one too many". She also she shot the feature film "Enkel für Fortgeschrittene" and the Munich "Tatort - Gamer", which was broadcast in May 2023.

 

In 2023, she filmed for the "Friesland Krimi", "Der Masuren-Krimi" and "Mord mit Aussicht". In the ARD film "Die Beste zum Schluss", the actress took on one of the leading roles.

 

Since the beginning of this year, Marie Burchard has been supporting "Women for Women International" as an ambassador. The aid organization specifically for women in crisis and war zones. Recently, filming began for the filming of the ZDF series "Uncivilized", directed by Bilal Bahadır.
